1. Introduction
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the PawTails.care mobile applications (iOS and Android), the PawTails web application, and related services (together, the “Service”), provided by KarmaNova Animal Technologies (“PawTails”, “we”, “us”, “our”).
By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated by reference. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
2. Who May Use the Service
PawTails is intended for pet owners and caregivers in the European Union, the United Kingdom, and other regions where the Service is offered. You must be at least 16 years old to create an account. If you are under the age of majority in your country, you may only use the Service with the involvement of a parent or guardian.
You are responsible for ensuring your use of the Service complies with the laws that apply to you.
3. What the Service Is — and Is Not
PawTails is a health tracking and information tool that helps you record, visualise and share information about your companion animal’s health (feline diabetes at launch), and to coordinate that care with your veterinarian and other caregivers.
PawTails is not a medical or veterinary service, and it is not a medical device. This point is important enough that it has its own section below. Please read Section 4 carefully.
4. Medical Disclaimer
- PawTails does not provide veterinary or medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.
- PawTails does not recommend, calculate or adjust insulin doses or any other treatment.
- PawTails does not diagnose conditions and does not determine or declare remission. Where the app records a condition or remission status, that status is entered by you and should be confirmed by your veterinarian.
- Any educational content, statistics, trend indicators, reference ranges, or AI-generated insights are provided for information only. They are observations, never instructions, and must not be relied upon to make treatment decisions.
- Always consult a qualified veterinarian for any decision about your animal’s health, medication or treatment.
- The Service is not designed for emergencies. In an emergency, contact your veterinarian or an emergency veterinary service immediately.
You remain solely responsible for your animal’s care and for all decisions you make. To the extent permitted by law, we accept no responsibility for decisions taken in reliance on the Service.
5. Your Account
You must provide accurate information when registering and keep your credentials secure. You are responsible for activity that occurs under your account. Notify us promptly if you believe your account has been compromised. You may sign up with an email address and password, or via a third-party sign-in provider (Google or Apple) where offered; your use of those providers is also subject to their terms.
6. Caregiver and Vet Sharing
The Service lets you invite other people to help care for your pet, and lets you generate secure, time-limited links (and QR codes) so that a veterinarian can view a read-only health summary without creating an account.
- When you invite a caregiver or generate a share link, you are choosing to disclose your pet’s health information to the people you share it with. You are responsible for who you share with.
- Anyone holding an active share link can view the shared summary until the link expires or you revoke it. You can revoke a link at any time from within the app.
7. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- use the Service unlawfully, or to store or share content you have no right to;
- attempt to access other users’ data, probe or breach security, or disrupt the Service;
- reverse engineer, scrape, or resell the Service except as permitted by law;
- upload malicious code or misuse the sharing features to distribute unwanted content.
We may suspend or terminate accounts that breach these Terms (see Section 15).
8. Subscriptions, Pricing and Payments
PawTails offers a free tier and an optional paid subscription, PawTails Pro. Pro is not yet on sale; Pro subscriptions open at launch. When it becomes available, the following terms apply:
- Pricing: PawTails Pro is offered at €3.99 per month. The free tier remains available and is not time-limited.
- How you pay: On iOS, subscriptions are sold through Apple In-App Purchase; on Android, through Google Play Billing; on the web, through our payment processor. Entitlements are managed via RevenueCat. We do not receive or store your payment card details; these are handled by the relevant app store or payment processor.
- Renewal and cancellation: Subscriptions renew automatically for successive periods until cancelled. You can manage or cancel your subscription through the app store where you purchased it (Apple App Store, Google Play) or, for web purchases, through the payment provider used at checkout. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.
- Cross-platform recognition: A subscription purchased on one platform is recognised on your account across platforms. If a renewal payment fails, a short grace period applies before the account returns to the free tier.
- EU right of withdrawal: As a consumer in the EU/UK, you may have a statutory right to withdraw from a purchase of digital services within 14 days. Because the Service is supplied immediately, you may be asked to acknowledge that provision begins at once, which can affect this right.
- Refunds for store purchases are handled under the relevant app store’s policies.
We will give reasonable notice of any price change; changes do not affect the period you have already paid for.
9. AI Insights (Pro)
The Pro tier includes automated “insights” that summarise recent trends in your logged data in plain language. To produce them, relevant health data is processed by a third-party AI provider on our behalf (see the Privacy Policy). These insights:
- are generated automatically and may be inaccurate or incomplete;
- are informational only and are subject to the Medical Disclaimer in Section 4;
- never contain dosing, diagnostic or treatment instructions by design.
The insights are produced via OpenRouter using a large language model (currently Anthropic’s Claude Haiku). Only a summary of pet health data is sent — free-text notes are excluded, and never your account email, name or identifier. The Privacy Policy describes exactly what is sent.
10. Your Content and Data
You retain all rights in the data and content you enter (“Your Content”). You grant us a limited licence to host, process and display Your Content solely to operate and provide the Service to you (including generating charts, insights, and the share summaries you choose to create).
- Export: You can export Your Content at any time (CSV, and a machine-readable account export). Your data is yours.
- We do not sell Your Content, and we do not use it for advertising. See the Privacy Policy for how we handle personal data and your GDPR rights.
11. Availability, Reliability and Changes
We work hard to keep the Service reliable and to preserve your data — reliability is central to what we build. However, the Service is provided on an “as available” basis. We may modify, suspend, or discontinue features, and we may perform maintenance that temporarily limits availability. Offline logging on mobile is designed to queue and sync your entries when a connection returns, but we cannot guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation.
12. Intellectual Property
The Service, including its software, design, branding and content (excluding Your Content), is owned by KarmaNova Animal Technologies or its licensors and is protected by intellectual-property law. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the Service under these Terms.
13. Third-Party Services
The Service relies on third-party providers to function (for example, hosting, subscription management, and the AI provider for Pro insights). These providers process data on our behalf as described in the Privacy Policy. We are not responsible for third-party services that you separately choose to use.
14. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law:
- The Service is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, except those that cannot be excluded under the laws that protect you as a consumer.
- We are not liable for any decision made about an animal’s health in reliance on the Service (see Section 4), nor for indirect or consequential loss.
- Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded — including, in the EU/UK, your mandatory statutory consumer rights, and liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
15. Suspension, Termination and Account Deletion
You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time from within the app.
- Account deletion places your account into a 30-day recovery window. During this window you can restore your account. After the window closes, your personal data is permanently anonymised, while pet health records are retained in anonymised form so that aggregate data integrity is preserved. This is described further in the Privacy Policy.
- We may suspend or terminate your access if you materially breach these Terms, if required by law, or to protect the Service or other users.
16. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will provide reasonable notice in-app. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance. If you do not agree to the updated Terms, you should stop using the Service and may delete your account.
17. Governing Law and Jurisdiction
These Terms are governed by the laws of Austria, without prejudice to the mandatory consumer-protection rules of your country of residence in the EU/UK, which continue to apply. Disputes are subject to the jurisdiction of the competent courts of Austria, again without affecting your right to bring proceedings in your home jurisdiction where the law allows.
